Restorative yoga looks simple. Props supporting your body, minimal movement, long holds. But the simplicity is the point. This practice targets the physical tension that accumulates when stress becomes your baseline state.
Each posture uses bolsters, blankets, and blocks to fully support your weight. Your muscles can finally release because they do not need to work. Poses are held for eight to twelve minutes, giving your nervous system time to register safety and shift into repair mode.
Why extended holds matter
Quick stretches do not reach the deeper layers of tension. Your body needs sustained gentle pressure and time to unwind patterns that have been building for months or years. These longer holds also train your mind to stay present instead of jumping to the next task.
This is not about flexibility or strength. It is about creating conditions where your body can remember what relaxation actually feels like.
